Sorong Nature Park
A Tropical Haven of Biodiversity
Sorong Nature Park spans 945.9 hectares and is located in East Sorong District, Sorong City, West Papua Province. This nature tourism park is characterized by a wet tropical climate, with an average annual rainfall of 3,066 mm and approximately 193 rain days per year. The climate type is classified as A, with a Q value of 15.5%. The topography of the park ranges from medium to steep terrain, with several rivers flowing through the area, including Klawulu River, Klasege River, Pletok River, and Klabeling River.
Geology and Ecosystem
The geological composition of Sorong Nature Park consists of Neogene sedimentary rocks, with Podsolite soil being the dominant type. The park represents a lowland forest ecosystem, featuring well-arranged Damar plantations (Agathis labillardieri) and Araucaria spp. A total of 53 species of woody vegetation thrive here, including:
Matoa (Pometia sp.) Merbau (Intsia bijuga), Medang, Angsana, Amugis, Lansat,
Cempedak, Rambutan, Mango.
