Beriat Nature Park
A Haven of Biodiversity in West Papua

Area and Location
Beriat Nature Park spans 9,193.75 hectares and is located in Sawat District, South Sorong, West Papua Province. The park falls under the management of the Conservation Area Section II of Teminabuan.

Climate and Topography
Beriat Nature Park experiences an average annual rainfall of 5,667.7 mm, with approximately 259.1 rainy days per year and a Q value of 2.56%. The park features a hilly topography, ranging from gentle slopes to steep, undulating terrain. Its highest peak, Bolmanit Hill, rises to approximately 350 meters above sea level. Several rivers traverse the park, most of which drain into the Kaibus River.

Geology and Soil
The park’s geological composition consists of alluvial sediment and karst (coral reef) formations, while Podsolite soil is the dominant soil type.

Flora and Fauna
Beriat Nature Park supports a rich diversity of plant and animal species. The most commonly found plant species include:
Casuarina (Casuarina rumphius), Jungle nut (Myristica sp.), Jambu (Eugenia sp.) Gaharu Irian (Aquilaria filaria), Various rattan species Other typical lowland forest plants and many more.

The park is also home to various wildlife species, including: Spotted cuscus (Phalanger maculatus), Black-capped lory (Lorius lory), Maleo (Macrocephalon maleo), Yellow-crested white cockatoo (Cacatua galerita triton) and many more.

Access and Tourism
Reaching Beriat Nature Park requires a journey of 6–10 hours by car from Sorong. From Teminabuan City, visitors can travel to the park by chartered car or motorcycle taxi, which takes approximately 15–30 minutes.
Tourism activities in the park include:
Herping, Birding, Exploring the stunning karst forest landscapes, Canoeing along the rivers.
