Join us on a seven-day birding adventure that takes you deep into two of Papua’s most remarkable birding destinations Malagufuk and Waigeo Island. This unforgettable journey combines the magic of lowland rainforest exploration with the unique island biodiversity of Raja Ampat, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike.
Our adventure begins in Malagufuk, a small village surrounded by ancient rainforest, known as one of the best birding hotspots in West Papua. Here, you’ll venture along forest trails at dawn to witness the breathtaking courtship displays of the Magnificent Bird of Paradise, Twelve wired Bird of Paradise, and the colorful King Bird of Paradise. The air is alive with the calls of parrots, pigeons, and hornbills, and lucky visitors may spot the secretive Crowned Pigeon, a true symbol of Papua’s wilderness.
From the mainland, the journey continues to Waigeo Island, part of the famous Raja Ampat archipelago. Waigeo is home to two of the most spectacular and sought-after species in the world the Wilson’s Bird of Paradise and the Red Bird of Paradise. Watching the Wilson’s Bird-of-Paradise display at sunrise, its vibrant blue, red, and yellow plumage glowing under the forest canopy, is an experience every birder dreams of.
Beyond birding, Waigeo also offers chances to encounter other unique wildlife cuscus, monitor lizards, and exotic butterflies along with opportunities to relax by pristine beaches and even snorkel among coral reefs teeming with marine life.
Throughout the tour, you’ll be guided by experienced local birding experts who know every song and call of the forest. Comfortable local homestays or eco-lodges provide authentic hospitality, allowing you to connect with the indigenous Papuan community and contribute directly to local conservation efforts.
This 7-day adventure blends world class birdwatching, authentic cultural encounters, and the pure beauty of Papua’s untamed nature making it an unforgettable journey into one of Earth’s last great wildernesses.
